Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: When we got to the Hiker Parking Lot at 8AM at the Cog Railway Base it was probably 2/3 full. This is the second time in 4 weeks that I've parked there without anybody collecting money. I'm thinking it might now be free.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We started from the Cog Railroad Base to hook up with the Jewell Trail. There are a couple of flat boards across the rocks to make the crossing a bit tricky but everyone seems to make it. The boards were not tied down and would most likely wash away in a significant thunderstorm so I say this crossing is unreliable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Feels like the evergreens are growing into the trail as you get closer to the outlook over Burt Ravine 2 miles in.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There were a couple of dogs on the trail.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad at all.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: None.

Comments
Comments: Well I'm not sure where happened to the forecast but 'partly sunny' didn't really happen. However the lack of sun made for a pleasant hike: comfy temps and the views of peaks and ridges all around were very well defined.

We had small flags sticking out of our packs and saw about a dozen decked out in their patriotic outfits in the spirit of the 4th. Quite a few "Happy 4th" being spoken by most hikers we met. Quite crowded at the top as expected. Met a couple of thru hikers: Mozart from Germany and Buster from New York.
