Comments: This was an attempt to find and follow the abandoned Tuttle Brook trail. Getting started on the trail is confusing. I followed the snowmobile trail to the forest service boundary then followed the current Tuttle Trail to it's end in a patch cut. This is probably not the old trail because it's on the E side of the brook while the trail (old road) was on the W. side. Bushwhacking begins here; roughly half the distance. Beyond the patch cut I went along the W. side of the brook and then straight up a steep slope to the ridge. Just below the ridge I found what I thought was the old footbed. Someone else must have thought so also because it was marked with surveyor's tape. Here is the key moment where I messed up (and demonstrated that perhaps my map reading skills could stand some work). No matter how many times I looked at the 1946 map of this trail I had this image that it followed the ridge and met the Fire Warden's trail where it meets the ridge. That is wrong. The trail crosses the ridge and slabs mostly along a contour at the top of the drainage that the Fire Warden's trail ascends. It meets the Fire Warden's trail at the 3rd and last switchback (when ascending). But being bull headed and ignorant I 'whacked up the ridge through some pretty gnarly stuff to the Fire Warden's trail. The rest of the fine day was just walking. Side note: if you have the urge to go over to the ledges you can see on So. Sugarloaf the woods along the ridge from the Fire Warden's trail to those ledges is very forgiving most of the way.
