Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: After two days of rain, we got our feet wet on most of the crossings. Nothing scary, just mostly submerged rocks. The trails in the Great Gulf are notoriously wet and muddy so chances are your feet are gonna wet at some point anyway!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns on the GG trail, some rather awkward to get over. A couple on Sphinx were much easier to maneuver.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One thing for sure, plenty of water for them to drink on this route. I would think only agile dogs who aren't afraid of rushing water would do well on the GG head wall. Steep, wet and slippery coming down Sphinx too.
Bugs
Bugs: Not too many today, the stiff breeze and cold temps above treeline kept them away. A few came out at the end on our way back through the GG.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a one gallon Rubbermaid like beverage container (white) about three miles or so into the great gulf, it appeared it was abandoned, I can't imagine why?! I picked it up on our way out and left it at the kiosk at the trail head. Carrying that thing empty for 3 miles was cumbersome, I can't imagine what it would be like carrying it full of liquid. There's a reason they don't sell those at EMS and REI people.

Comments
Comments: It's always and adventure in the Great Gulf :). The water was flowing everywhere; streams, rivers, trails, waterfalls, all of it! The clouds encompassed us about 3/4 of the way up the head wall which was a bummer. Didn't break until we were on our way to Clay. Still a great day out! Thanks Kyle!
