To cut my drive short I decided to hike Cabot by way of Unkown Pond Tr. from Mill Brook Rd. It is 0.2 miles longer than the hike by way of York Pond Trail but it saved me about 25 miles driving. Unknown Pond Tr. is wet and muddy for the first half mile, but strategically placed rocks make it easy to stay out of it. It was a great day for a hike as it was cool, breezy, and bug free. However, the peaks were in the clouds all morning and I did not go up Mt. Horn as I would not have had a view. As often happens, once I was back at Unknown Pond the peaks began to clear; oh well, I have been there before in better conditions. Was glad to have met Paradox and his dog Zippy one third down Unkown Pond trail. He was going to do just Horn for his 93rd of NE 100 Highest and seemed to have the better part of the day for a great view. |
