Date of Hike: Saturday, May 30, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Two cars at Flat Mountain Pond trailhead on Whiteface Intervale Road when I arrived, one other had joined them on my return.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Whiteface River crossing on Flat Mountain Pond Trail is easily rock hoppable at current water levels. Most drainages are dry or barely a trickle.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some stepovers along the route, none impeding travel, par for a wilderness area. McCrillis Trail blazed down low, but unmarked up high, until you get within spitting distance of the ledges at the top. McCrillis Path had some blazes, but the reroute wasn't, I can see where it might throw some people off.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: A couple pooches out with their people, they looked to be enjoying the heat.
Bugs
Bugs: Pretty rugged down low, better up high with the breeze, but still aggressive. Lots of spider webs, thanks wilderness trails!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A navy blue bandana tied to a tree on Blueberry Ledges Trail

Comments
Comments: Another in a string of hot days, looking to avoid the crowds. I partially succeeded. Taking the back way to Whiteface was the right call, as I didn't see a soul on Flat Mountain Pond or McCrillis Trail (not to mention, the trails were really pretty) until I got to the south summit of Whiteface. From here, I saw many groups, including a boy scout troop out backpacking. Went out and tagged the summit of Whiteface, and scooted down Blueberry Ledge Trail, which was a fun descent on dry rock. Dropped down to the end of McCrillis Path, and took it and Whiteface Intervale Road back to my car. 6 hours round trip, and two more trails (the McCrillis's) off the sheet.
