Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Tunnel Brook Road - the drivable section - is getting worse. It is passable but caution is advised as there are potholes and protruding boulders. The non-drivable section (closed since hurricane Irene) is now being worked upon (although no work-crews today) but my understanding from the Forest Service is that it will become part of the Tunnel Brook tr. - and not be re-opened for vehicle access. At the moment a ~250 yard section is covered with logs - big and small - and tedious to pass.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable)

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of Tunnel Brook is difficult without getting wet boots. I went over on a small log right where the trail is but it is tricky business.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The primary purpose of my hike was to do trail work. Some blowdowns are left but most are on the ground or are "leaners" - all easy to pass. The most tedious is a big spruce around 2,800 ft. It is now trimmed and fairly easy to "dug-under". Otherwise, the trail is in great shape but spring conditions (water, mud, snow) should be expected.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Trail is excellent for dogs - except for the log covered section on Tunnel Brook Rd. (see comments above) and about 1/2 of mile of snow-covered trail just before treeline.
