Comments
Comments: Intended on doing a Guyout campsite overnight, but instead took a 20 mile out & back with a 30lb pack. Starting after third water crossing until the rock scramble below the summit, there is hellacious monorail with *very* little firmness. When you can find it, it's the width of a ruler. Post holed mightily with spikes and it was a real challenge trying to keep a narrow gait with snowshoes and even then post holed quite a bit. Might have been down to 0.5 mph for that entire stretch. Cliff summit area until half way up Bond is clear of snow & ice. Once into the spruce halfway up Bond, there was no discernible trace of the trail as there was multiple feet of snow remaining. It appeared no one had been on the trail in over a week or more. Having only been here once before (going opposite way) I was unfamiliar with the trail location and was getting caught in one spruce trap after another. In addition to beating myself up physically, I was having strong pangs of guilt to the damage I was doing to the alpine zone. I decided the mountain would be there another day and with reluctance I turned around and walked out.
Weather & visibility was a 10 out of 10.
I was only hiker on the trail for the day.
