Parking/Access Road Notes:
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The second of the 2 main crossings is a bit tricky with steep snowbanks and rotten snow. Major sections broke of as we passed.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Removed one minor blowdown but there is still a lot left - all requiring axe work. There is handful about 1/4 of a mile from the trailhead but they are all on the ground. And there are 3 about 1/4 of a mile from the summit.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cinnilla was not too happy with the second crossing but eventually made it without assistance. Postholed and soft sections are challenging and tiring. Plenty of water available for sip and dip - very much needed today.

Comments
Comments: Today's equipment: shorts, t-shirt and snowshoes.

Lower third of Hale Brook is dry with a few muddy sections.
Middle third (from just before the first major crossing to a bit after the second) is challenging with postholed sections and unstable monorail. Tried barebooting for s bit but then switched to snowshoes.

Upper third has a more stable monorail.

The Forest Service was active on Zealand Road. Perhaps it may soon be opened.
