Plenty of parking everywhere today. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Snow - Spring Snow |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossing of Flume Cascade Brook on Webster-Jackson Tr. was a little challenging. A blowdown slightly upstream provides a nice balancing aide. South end of Saco Lake Tr. there was a crossing where boots were nice to have. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Only recall a few blowdowns. 2 on Crawford Path which weren't a problem and will become less so when snow depth is gone. Other one I believe was between Mizpah Hut and Pierce and will be an easy removal once snow/ice frees it up. Removed a few larger branches along with many smaller ones. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Pemi says it's a great trail for dogs as he was headed up Crawford for the second time today. Nice to run into Sunshine & Pemi and then later into Tom & Atticus. |
|
| Bugs: |
Few flies buzzing about. |

| Comments: |
Barebooted to the jct. of Webster/Jackson branches; then micros to the top of Jackson. I'd want traction if heading down from Jackson. Snowshoes from Jackson until Gibbs Falls; then bareboots again. Stretch from Jackson to Mizpah I recommend snowshoes as this section not as well packed out and still deep snow. Even those trying to stay dead center on trail would punch through quite often in here. Some snow or ice right from the start on each end. Lower Crawford has much potential for wet feet as snow pack breaking up fast. Awesome Day!! |
