First mile of Airline was ok in boots, then snowshoes is the way to go if above freezing. Post holes here and there and it's choppy but it was not an issue. Above treeline light traction was fine everywhere along Airline, Gulfside, and Osgood. Above treeline on Watson Path is best in boots as 85% of the trail is above the snow so it's rock hopping from here on out. Below treeline on Watson the snow is very unstable, expect to posthole even in snowshoes if descending, there are a few tedious icy sections mixed in too. Valley Way is choppy but firm as long as you stayed on the trail. Great day out, happy I decided to head up Airline agains, definitely the way to go! |
