Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Snow bridges were all giving way yesterday, expect all crossings to be open. Water was higher than usual with melting snow, but all crossings were rock hoppable with care, or could be stepped over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One large walk under and two smaller pines (walk around, stepover) all between the intersection of the old, unmaintained trail and the cabin. All can be handled with a small bow saw. Sign on the back of the tree on top of Cabot is gone, only a screw remains.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Soft snow would be tough on them due to post-holing.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Left a pair of MSRs in the back left of the parking lot. Please contact me at the email address elsewhere on the page if you find them.

Comments
Comments: Probably no worse day of the year to do go through Bunnell Notch. Monorails appearing in some places but often at the same levels the surrounding snow, resulting in missed steps and post holing even in snow shoes. Many thanks to all the moose that left the three foot post holes letting me know where not to step, and saving from even more missteps. Bridging over the drainage in the notch was unstable, several gave way as I was crossing on the way in. Trail tough to follow above the cabin, ended up wandering off at least once, possibly twice, before picking it up again further on. Recommend giving this one a couple more weeks for the melting snow to drain through the notch before you hike it.
