The bushwhack off the bike path was easier to find than it had been a few months ago and was well packed out. Lots of recent traffic from the Whitehouse trail side, no recent traffic on Flume Slide trail. Liberty Springs mostly very well packed, slightly less consolidated beyond the campsite - some small postholes down low and some very deep ones up high just off the monorail. FRT between the peaks not as well packed in the morning but better on the way back, a bunch of sets of snowshoes helped after yesterday's mixed precip. One set of recent snowshoe tracks headed towards Little Haystack, not sure how far they went. Very windy on the summits with spitting snow and sleet at times, colder than forecasted but we still got good views along the ridge. Saw about a dozen other people including Sunshine, Pemi and company - about half were in snowshoes and half were in light traction - we wore snowshoes car to car for better stability, less sinking and televators and were happy we did, would definitely recommend them for the time being. Great day out with Nikki, Hannah and Chloe. |
