Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Matt removed on on the lower Scaur Ridge Tr, there was another larger one about 1/4 mi before Pine Bend Brook Tr near the sharp left that causes a little confusion. Scaur Ridge Tr meets PBB about 100 yards north of the junction. Only the tip of the sign post was showing. There are a couple more blowdowns along the Mt Tripyramid Tr across the ridge although they may be irrelevant once the snow melts. The trail wanders between Middle and South Peak due to few blazes but eventually gets back on track. There is a large tree down on the Mt Tripyramid Tr less than a mile from its southern junction with the Livermore Tr that will require an ax or large saw.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie had no issues and wondered what was taking us so long to descend the South Slide.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found half of a rubber ball on North Tripyramid.

Comments
Comments: Decide to mix it up and get some redlining in. The trails around Snows Mtn Ski Area are lightly used but there was evidence of a track. Once we reached the top of the lift we followed the groomed ski trail, gravel road in summer, to the Livermore Tr. Livermore Tr was interesting as the old track wasn't very firm and even with snowshoes I would break through the crust if I stepped too far off to the side. Scaur Ridge Tr was fairly firm but new snow had covered up the track at higher elevation. I found the sign post at the PBB junction and dug it out. It looked like a stump a first glance. All the way to Middle Tripyramid the trail was well packed although barebooters were post holing every now and again. From Middle to South Peak was soft unconsolidated snow over a crust. Few blazes and no obvious corridor but it was tracked out by another hiker that we had met earlier. It was very tight in a few places. Heading down the South Slide was tricky as it had a few inches of powder on top of a firm crust. With snowshoes I would slide and not break through the crust. Or if I stomped my feet I would break through but almost trip due to the thickness of the crust. We decided the best approach was to descend backwards until the grade lessened. About halfway down the sun came out and the snow became stick making things easier. I was even able to butt slide under control a few times. After the slide the last 2 miles to the Livermore Tr was very soft and we were postholing every third step up to shins even with the snowshoes on. Once back at the Snows Mtn lift the clouds had cleared and we had excellent views of Tecumseh and the Osceolas. Thanks Matt for another great hike and getting some more red ink on this different approach to the Tripyramids.
