One decent sized stepover above the first Tecumseh Brook crossing that will have to come out at a later time. |

Lower half of the trail was barebootable with a firm footbed with an inch or so of snow on top.
Snowshoes went on near the bottom of the chairlift (ie shortly above the ski trail viewpoint). Drifting started above where skiers usually hop on (very little ski traffic recently perhaps due to firm snowpack). Barebooters have shifted the packed footbed off to the side of the trail, so it can be a bit brushy feeling in places (yet there's 4-6 feet of open airway to the left...I tried to walk it in snowshoes to encourage some shifting).
Lots of drifting on the ridge, especially on the Mt. Tecumseh Trail side of the loop (ie east). Probably up to 8 feet on the final ascent on that side, and close to it near the top of the Sosman side. Snowshoes definitely needed for the Mt. Tecumseh Trail side. Snowshoes will also be a good idea when we get our next thaw, as I suspect bareboots will plunge deep into the drifted snowpack.
No recent activity on the Sosman Trail heading to the ski area.
Nice sunset, as well as an interesting undercast to the northwest. |
