Our group of four wore snowshoes start to finish. The trail was blown in by the recent winds over much of the way up to Starr King. Surprising amount of loose powder this late in the winter. From the fire place to Waumbek the tracks were relatively easy to follow with one exception when they led us to a spruce trap. We backtracked, relocated the trail and brushed in the spur. From the view point about 50 yards beyond Waumbekâs summit we had a spectacular view of much of the length of the snowbound Presidentials, all under overcast.
On descent we encountered several other small groups, all on snowshoes. The trail is decently packed down now but strongly recommend wearing snowshoes.
