Perfect day with brilliant sunshine and 3 new inches of loose snow carpeting trails and clinging to trees. Times of zero wind defined the absolute silence of winter when stopping to rest. Met a nice gentleman who caught up to us on final ascent of N. Hancock and who identified surrounding peaks and navigated along ridge to S. Hancock through drifted/obscured trail brilliantly. Snow pack so deep that there were great views from summit of N. Hancock withut going to lookout. Trail down S. Hancocck partially filled in with drifted snow but easy to follow. Views of Arrow Slide were awesome. All in all a perfect day in the Whites for these two New Yorkers. |
