Comments: Last night NOAA predicted 70mph winds for today, up from the earlier 30mph forecast so last night the plan was to cancel. Woke up at 5:30 and decided to check the forecast again and it was back down to 30mph so I headed north for a hike. The COG lot was pretty full at 8:30. I headed up the Jewel which was being packed out by two hikers in snowshoes a head of me. Thanks guys! There was about 2 to 4 inches of new light fluffy snow and some drifts. Jewel Trail has several duck unders. Above tree line the winds was blowing maybe 20mph but with the warm temps it was quite comfortable. I decided to cut across the snowfield instead of climbing the Jewel all the way up to the Gulfside. The snow was wind blown and like concrete so the shortcut went well. I intersected the Gulfside at the Clay Loop sign, saving some elevation and distance. I ran into the 2 hikers that were ahead of me heading down from Jefferson. Another Gridder and his friend. On Jefferson I measured the wind on the summit and it was 29mph. Thanks NOAA. I sould have trusted the OBS forecast last night which was bang on...
