Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: crossings all easily hopped. most interesting was first crossing on notch trail near signal ridge junction.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: trails in decent shape. signal ridge has some step overs before the carrigain notch trail junction and a couple large duck unders. looks like the amc crews have been on carrigain notch and desolation as both were pretty much clear of all but easy step overs once in the wilderness area. drainages look to have been serviced as well.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: mosquitoes in parking lot and would find you if you were still too long at lower elevations.

Comments
Comments: perfect day to hike carrigain. though i've been up this peak many times i had never gone via the notch and desolation before. really beautiful, remote and rugged country. neat filtered views in the notch to lowell and vose spur and moose sign at every turn. desolation trail is an amazing piece of work particularly where it follows the old road in the lower portion. great to be out.
