Comments
Comments: Well packed, firm frozen granular track to roughly 3700' where the trail turns right to gain the ridge. From that point to the last 1/4 mile or so of summit was various depths of churned up powder. Summit cone was very hard snow, large patches of gray ice and bare rock. I wore snow shoes car to car because I forgot straps to put on back pack. Saw two bare booters and one in spikes and they were all doing just fine. You will not post hole in this snow until it warms up. Snowshoes were definitely better in the powdery sections but were a real drag in the lower elevations, especially descending. The granular areas hadn't softened up at all as of when I left. It was pretty cold in the trees/valley all day.

Winds were also pleasantly lower than forecast. Only 5-10 mph along most of ridge and 10-15 mph on summit with an occasional gust to around 20 mph. Didn't have my Kestrel but I'm guessing temps maybe 5-10 deg on summit around 1PM. Sun made it feel quite nice though. Spent about 20 minutes on top before descending.
