Crampons required; ice axe nice to have on a couple sections of the climb. Snowshoes alone would not work...My buddy climbed the chimney with crampons and ice axe. I used the bypass with crampons and trekking poles. We followed in the steps of an early morning hiker who broke the trail for us. We met him at the summit- he had just arrived! We glissaded down the steeps in crampons. Wore them over 6 miles on this trek! A beautiful cold, no wind day with "abundant" sunshine. Fantastic day with views to match. The trail cover will melt and re freeze this week which should give better traction than what we got. |
