Comments
Comments: The snowmobile trail on Sawyer River Road was well groomed. There is a snowshoe track from the end of the parking lot that connects to the road if you bear right. Once on the trail we encountered a dusting of snow that increased to 2-3 inches as we climbed. The trail was drifted in spots from Monday's wind but powder drifts did not exceed 6-8 inches. Both the old and new trails are broken out; we took the old trail as it looked like it had seen more traffic. The ice on the two small crossings was thin, but the water underneath was shallow so would not have been a disaster to fall through. On Signal Ridge the large drifts are hard packed and we walked on top of them. The only tricky route finding was just below the summit where larger drifts obscured the trail; bear right to climb to the summit and observation tower. There were excellent views and no wind - a perfect day for Carrigain! This was an easier climb than I expected thanks to previous trail breakers.

41 down, 6 to go for my winter 48...
