Comments
Comments: The North Twin water bypass is a nice flat variation since it can spend some time on the river instead of up on the eroded bank. This weekends tracks were evident till about .5 from North Twin. I passed a couple that hadn't made it last year because of deep snow and trail finding. They saw that several large groups were out this weekend and hoped it would go better. It snowed very hard in the Pemi the day before and it was windy so I knew what to expect. There were waist deep drifts and no sign of previous traffic on the final ascent of N Twin. Trail finding was tough in a few places. For some reason, the biggest drifts seem to grow in the trail. The trip to South Twin was consistent deep snow. I saw just a few previous tracks. I had never seen such deep snow on the South Twin trail. The corridor was evident but butt sliding was not in the cards. The hut was the windiest spot of the day. The Frost trail was easier to follow but you have to duck most of the way. The trip down the Gale River trail was nice. The current track follows the old trail and not the relo. I hope the couple I were sucessful. Thanks to Jill for her hard work climbing N Twin and to Val for picking me up.
