The Hancock Notch, Cedar Brook, and Hancock Loop (just until the start of the loop) Trails were packed down. We used snowshoes. A group we passed on the way back was using spikes only and tore up the track pretty good.
The trail up Mt. Hancock had varying levels of packed snow. Televators made it "easy".
The ridge was a mix of conditions from a packed out trail to a trail completely drifted over.
The descent down South Hancock was a quick two butt slides. We passed the group of six using only spikes ascending to South Hancock. The spikes were tearing up the trail. The bottom portion we packed back down while butt sliding, but the top portion I imagine was ripped apart good. A good butt slide should fix it.
Weather report was completely wrong. Little wind and temperatures in the sun reached 20ºF! Felt like a heat wave compared to the -10ºF two weeks ago. |
