| Comments: |
Crawford Path up to Pierce was a sidewalk, no issues - saw the only other people of the day about a quarter mile below the summit, all but two in the group were in snowshoes. Some large drifts just below the junction with Webster Cliff trail, all are now broken out but not well packed. We were the only ones who made it to Ike today - areas of drifting on the ridge, biggest ones were mid-thigh but most were mid-shin to knee height, mostly fluffy snow but some crust to break through here and there. Even in the tree sections we packed down 4-6" of fluffy stuff. Trail fairly easy to follow, though my track might be a bit off in a few short sections on initial descent from Pierce (if they don't get drifted over again). Lots of wind blown ice and styrofoam snow on the Ike loop trail. Winds were a steady 30-35mph on the summit, stayed that way until almost all the way back to Pierce and probably gusted to 40mph a few times. Fortunately we stayed out of the clouds all day and had great views and much more sun and blue sky than forecasted - great day out with Hannah. |
