Comments
Comments: Fact : Roughly 12" of soft, pliable snow on the ridge. The flakes did not stay where they landed. The first 50 yds of trail North of the platform on D is a bushwhack as the trail is completely drifted in. Yes, I know where the trail is in that stretch. Opinion : The snow seemed to have accumulated in the stretch between D and C. There was 2 feet of snow and drifts in this section which made for slow wallowing going up the steeps on C. I thought it might take me 2 to 3 hours to go from D to A. But once I got high enough on C things improved measurably. Short stretches of wind-blown hard pack seemed like a vacation. Just breaking through the powder with occasional drifts seemed pretty good! Still, Wildcat A is one of those peaks that you never quite get there (if you know what I mean). On the return, downhill with tracks, made me wonder what I was whining about on the way up. The 'Cats are tracked to the extent that one person makes a track. And grateful for the 'whack that cuts out going back up D on the return.
