Comments
Comments: Crawford Path up to the junction with Webster Cliff Tr. was well broken out, used snow shoes to tramp down a few inches of fresh powder and keep feet from slipping. Short section of Webster Cliff to Pierce summit was windswept and cairns difficult to see (in the clouds). Crawford path to Eisenhower had heavy drifting (some up to 5')and took great care to navigate as most cairns were covered or obscured. Continually evaluted conditions to assess if safe to proceed. Rotated taking the lead due to snow depth and frequently observed terrain behind us to aid in navigating home as wind gave us concern that our tracks could drift over. Final pitch up Eisenhower was windswept crust (microspikes or crampons would have been best but did not want to stop to take off snowshoes). Return trip did have isolated sections were our tracks a few minutes before had disappeared but most of our trail-breaking through the thick snow remained. Easy going after getting back to the Pierce cone and descending.
Great day in the Whites, getting to Eisenhower and back was a fun route-finding with the cloud and snow conditions.
