Comments
Comments: Facts : 6 - 10 down low increasing to 12 - 16 up high; bad drifts on the Isolation trail. It was a rough day for three pairs of legs. Opinion : We were able to find the trench from the previous EH 'whack about 1/3 of the way across then it disappeared into the drift. I was looking for a landmark near that point which I did not find. As a result the current EH track, while serviceable, gets too low too soon and hits the trail more than a 1/4 mile below the first crossing. We paid for this error dearly by continually falling into waist deep holes (no exaggeration) on the Iso trail where the drifted snow is undermined by seeps. My snowshoe broke from the strain climbing out of one of these. Going out we met an inexperienced group of three at the second crossing who did not realize they had already been across the 'whack so it can't be too bad now that we found the holes. Thank you, Craig B. and Bill K. for a great day in the woods. And Congratulations, Bill K., on #46! (I'll try to restrain my disdain for the bare booters who postholed up to the ski trail before turning around. With tired legs going down hill in the gathering dusk it's hard not to twist an ankle on the trashed track! Just inconsiderate and pointless. You're not going far in the woods right now without snowshoes)
