There were 5 of us today who broke trail all the way to the main peak. A few inches of new snow down low to about 18 to 24" once on the ridge with higher amounts due to drifting. Snow shoes car to car except that I switched to full crampons just before the crossover slide area. The others managed with snowshoes. Once on the ridge I went to switch back over to snow shoes and discovered one of my shoes had fallen off my pack. There is no way that the ridge could be bare booted, so I started back down and met up with Somerset who found it. She got a late start and was just catching up. Thanks to Bill and Guy for doing most of the breaking. We took the by-pass---by-pass and it was tough. It was one tough hike today but always a great day out with Bill S.(Shorman), Guy J. (Hikinguy), Somerset B., and Hiker Ed. We met up with one other hiker who I believe only went to the East Peak. Nice snowshoe track the whole way but not consolidated in places. Snowshoes are a must. |
