Just before 10 am we saw two men getting ready to head up the mountain on snowshoes, said they were going all the way across the ridge. We skied in the morning and had a lift ticket so we didn't have to purchase a $10 uphill pass. We skinned up the Polecat Ski Trail (confess we took a couple of the steeper trail ungroomed/shortcuts for fun since there was little traffic). At top of ski trail we clicked off our skis behind the ski patrol shed. We bare booted and punched through drifts up the Wildcat Ridge Trail a short distance to the summit and observation platform. In the center of the trail it was icy under all the powder snow so we stayed on the far edge of the trail. There was little evidence of the men's snowshoe tracks as they were nearly completely blown in in after just a few hours. No views, lots of wind and a fun ski back down made it a good outing! |
