Very cold and windy day! Found the ledges on Blueberry Ledge Trail easily managed on snowshoes. Track was well established down low but drifted in throughout the day. There was evidence of a post-holing moose between 2500-3000 feet or so. Drifts on Rollins Tr were deep and extensive between Whiteface ad Passaconaway. I found a few of the sideways traverses with poor run outs scarier than the ledges by far, significant possibility for a bad outcome! Most areas had finger dense windslab of 6-12" on unconsolidated base up to 2+ feet in depth. I met another hiker on snowshoes following the same loop counterclockwise, so I was glad to have a set of tracks to ease the breaking, thought they were almost entirely drifted in in spots. Dicey's Mill was well packed, and fast. It saw a bare-booter up and down behind me, so may have some pot-holes! I expect this to be irrelevant with the winds and new snow!!! |
