Comments
Comments: Another fine day out with BillC. Great southern and eastern views and northern views of Carrigain and the Hancocks. The Presidentials and Franconia Ridge were shrouded all day. Starting in spikes on a very hard packed surface. At the steeps going up East Osceola we switched to crampons and happily so as the hard packed conditions lended themselves to crampons. Great care would have been necessary with spikes. Used crampons all the way to Osceola and back to the base of the steeps. Some drifting across the ridge. The Chimney ByPass is very icy so even with crampons caution advised. The ByPass of the ByPass we used on descent and hikers have cleared this so it is very easy. Bill glissaded off of Osceola. I was too lazy to take off crampons. Neither of us glissaded off East Osceola though one hiker did some glissading. Always glad to get these peaks done safely!
