Comments
Comments: Up Whiteface then Passaconoway with party of 8 RGoH following the popular route. Trails were packed firm, with a few soft patches on the ridge. Some tricky icy scrambles on upper ledges of Whiteface. We did not use crampons, but we beat the snowfall over the ridge--new light snow on the ice will make it a lot trickier--just enough to keep the light traction from biting through to the ice--crampons would be safer. We did not hike down to the view spur. Lower parts of Dicey's had a frozen, uneven footbed. Snow was still falling as we exited, 1" accumulation by ~5:30pm. We did not notice much use of the other routes to the summits.
