Comments
Comments: Nice to meet Kraken and company on my way up the steeps of East. Trails are hard packed except some light fluffy stuff mostly between the peaks. I received about 8 inches of new stuff in my yard so I was shocked to find almost no new snow over here. Steeps are a challenge but doable with care. Crampons in my opinion would be the safest traction to use but I saw a young guy in yak tracks and others in micro spikes finding their way up and down. The wind was present on the ridges but I didn't find it to be that bad and was never cold with just a base layer and thin wind breaker. The views were forever but with my afternoon start I didn't spend much time enjoying it. Also, the chimney bypass is tricky right at the bottom but pretty easy above that. I chose the bypass to the bypass on the way down from Osceola. Super easy and safe. Great day out in the Whites.
