Comments
Comments: A bit of everything for conditions this day. Cold start followed by a big warm-up, cold and windy on the ridge with snow and ice pellets, heavy rain coming down from Zeta Pass. Good track up from Camp Dodge to Carter-Moriah trail. Across the ridge was very chopped up. We wore snowshoes from the start down to Zeta Pass, but we passed 12 people going across the ridge the other way all in bare boots or microspikes. LOTS of postholes! We did our best to smooth things out but with freezing rain and then cold temps after us not sure what it looks like now. Decided to skip Carter Dome and headed down from Zeta Pass as it was starting to rain. Carter Dome trail had gotten extremely sticky and we had to dump the snowshoes for the rest of the trip. Ninteen-mile Brook is a mess (and we were back on Monday for the Carters and it had gotten worse). Everything was passable and the snow bridges were still in place then (but some gone on Monday) but after the temps dropped Sunday night it presumably became a lot less fun. Even with all the crazy conditions and no views still a great day out!
