Comments
Comments: N-S Osceola traverse from the Kank to Waterville with party of 9, RGoH. See water xing notes. Trail on the steeps ascending E. peak packed firm & starting to look like a luge due to gratuitous butt sledding--snow was soft & OK with light traction but the real fun will begin when the temps drop. The iced-over chock rock in the Chimney makes it a full-on ice climb--but there are 2 prospective bypasses this year. We broke trail from the main summit to Tripoli Road, used snowshoes to avoid postholing knee+ deep. Crusty snow. No one had been that way in quite a while. Most of the usual icy spots were covered in snow. Less snow nearer the road. Tripoli road is machine groomed for XC skis and firm from the pass to Waterville Valley--bare boots sufficient.
