Comments
Comments: Great Day. Temps -17 at Appalachia at 7am and +10 at the MWO. The higher up we got the warmer the air due to an inversion. One person ahead of us had tracked Valley Way. It is now well broken out though there is much drifting near the hut. We used snowshoes up Valley Way to Thunderstorm then switched to HillsHounds or Micros for the rest of the day. Up and down Adams was easy. Madison however has a lot of ice. Spikes were adequate with great care descending. I don't think crampons (we carried) would have helped much. Poles were very helpful. Great views all day. Temps in the teens and some breeze but for mid January these were perfect conditions. Many thanks to John, Karen, Bill, Bill Diane, Mike, Steve & Allie for joining me on this special hike (575 & 576). Many thanks to all who have hiked our wonderful hills with me over the years. A special shout out to Allie for #2 and #3 W4K. That's a big accomplishment on Madison and Adams in Janaury. You were a veteran in the tricky descent from Madison.
