Isolation wouldn't be so bad if one didn't have to hike the Isolation trail. Narrow, rocky, lots of blowdowns, lots of sinkholes, water. For many stretches of the trail you are walking the bottom of a 3 foot deep, narrow trench with slippery sides. I fell many times.
Engine Hill - the most fun of the day. I couldn't find the previous track so I made a new one going higher at the start than EH purists would like to avoid the wets, then more or less following the contour and avoiding most of the scratchy stuff. I rejoined the Iso trail a little over 100 yds below the first stream crossing.
Not too windy on the summit but powerful gusts on the 'whack on the way out.
To the extent that one person makes a track Iso is now tracked. Pretty choppy, though. |
