This was my very 1st official winter hike! I hike Flume and Libery Dec '13 on the 1st weekend of Dec in wintry conditions but still not winter. This was a super easy trail in the snow heading up to Carter Notch. Still a little cold all day but great when moving at our pace. Started in at 11am Saturday got to Carter Notch Hut around 2:35pm. After dropping packs in the bunk house, headed up to Wildcat A. So glad not to have any packs on! Just an hr up the very steep climb. Had lots of fun barrelling down back to the hut. Hung out on the lakes for a bit before heading into the hut for some hot soup. Dillon was a great caretaker and had a great group there for the night. It was very cold in the bunkhouse but I was nice and warm with the addition of my hot water in the water bottle. It was snowing at a good clip and we woke up to around 5" of new snow. Warm air came in really quick after 10am and we were super excited for a quick hike back out. Can't wait to head up another route back to the hut. |
