Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks North Hancock, South Hancock, NH
Trails
Trails: Hancock Notch Trail, Cedar Brook Trail, Hancock Loop Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, January 5, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The parking lot was not plowed in the morning but it was upon my return.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All larger crossings are bridged but the bridges are not solid and should be crossed carefully. Several small tributaries have open water but are easy "step-overs".
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I trimmed a blowdown up on the ridge between the 2 peaks and there are a couple of additional blowdowns on the trails but they are all easy to deal with.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The heavy snow covered with breakable crust does not make for good dog conditions. The crust is not solid enough for them to walk on without breaking through (except for very small dogs). However, these trails are now broken out and should be reasonably good - and the water-crossings should be fine. No ice anywhere.

2-3" inches of snow covered with breakable crust on the lower parts - increasing to 12" drifts on the ridge between the 2 peaks.
