| Water Crossing Notes: |
The first crossing of the unnamed brook 1 mile in on the new section of the Bond Cliff Tr. was pretty tricky. Significant flow and wide. Ice looked too unstable to attempt a crossing at the trail. Had to go 100 up stream to find a safe spot. On the return realized that down stream close to the Pemi. proved easier. The first 2 crossings on Black Brook could be rock hopped with Microspikes on the ice covered rocked. The last crossing at 3000' was ice bridged. |

| Comments: |
Had been wanting to return to at least Bond Cliff in winter since it was pitch black and blizzard conditions my only other time there in winter. Ran into a host of trail conditions. Carried my snowshoes the first 5 miles to camp 16 where I ditched them. With the temps yesterday, I wasn't making a dent in the frozen solid granular. Put the spikes on at camp 16. Even with the snow depths probably up to 2' above 3500', I still never broke through. Pretty easy walking, all day.
But alas when I reached the cliffs, I was greeted with snow showers greatly diminishing the views.
Note: Not sure where this report will be placed since only 2015 and 2013 are available from the drop down list. It was done yesterday, 12/31/2014 |
