The trail up was well packed out, a few post holes, but nothing to bad. The After all the X-Mass rain the snow pack is frozen solid, even off trail. We bare booted it on the way up, micro spikes not needed, any icy spots could be walked around. On the way down we did utilize micro spikes for better stability. The hike was relatively easy except for a few blowdowns once you get past Mt Surprise. Most of the blowdowns could be easily stepped over or ducked under, but a few we had to go off trail to walk around then, but this was made easier with the hard pack snow. A cold winter day with this trail being mostly in the shade all day, but very little wind in the trees. |
