Comments
Comments: With group of 6 from NEHM direct to Tom, then Field, Willey, backtrack to Field then down Avalon Trail. We had a rainy start and so abandoned thoughts of ascending via Kedron Flume. Snow packed hard throughout, softer down below, firmer up high, no danger of postholing unless you step off trail. Five of us used light traction, one preferred snowshoes. Rills & seeps have melted out large sections of snow on the lower Avalon Trail. Higher elevations have snow depth 12"-18" Very little ice on trails. Talus slope below Mt. Avalon has some melted-out ankle-busters--watch out.
