Spring like conditions on Garfield. Isn't it wonderful to do an April hike of Garfield for Christmas vacation week? Not. It was tough going, if I had it to do again, I would wear snow shoes for the road walk, then take the off for about 2 miles, then put them back on again. Warm conditions and lots of recent rain caused many, many open spots of water along the trail. Opted for the Tubbs Flex Alps, bad idea, should have stayed with the MSR Lightenings for ease of carrying. The extra weight made me want to wear them longer than was actually safe.
We woke up to rain and decided to do this shorter hike with Marta as we could all agree on it. No views at the top and a good amount of wind, after 70 miles in 5 days Kali showed off by spinning donuts in the snow up top! The girl is unstoppable and I am so glad I get to hike with her. Thank you Dan and Marta for another great day on the trails! |
