Comments
Comments: wore snowshoes car to car. they were really needed. 1-2" unpacked snow from the parking lot. one set of snowshoes tracks headed up Mt Garfield trail ahead of us; thank you Scott for breaking out most of the way. Less snow at the beginning of the Mt Garfield trail, but the snow depth increased as we ascended. When we started breaking there was 6-8" of unpacked snow, increasing to a foot when we got to the junction.

It was perhaps the most beautiful day i have ever hiked. the summit was unbroken and covered with fresh snow. the rime ice was over a foot long! the sky was blue with a little undercast and there was no wind. truly spectacular.

for anyone wanting a nice first winter hike, the trail is broken, but not really well packed. thanks to john for a memorable day
