Originally planned on doing Tom / Field / Avalon, but the Avalon Trail up to Avalon and Field was not broken out, so I just did Tom. I wore spikes up to the aforementioned junction, then put on snowshoes, as the trail was less consolidated from here on up. I semi-broke a new track almost to the spur junction, where I passed another hiker coming down. The spur trail also needed work, so I packed that down as much as I could. The summit was in bright, warm sun, and I was greeted by the jays. Several folks came up after me, so there's a good track now. At least one person I talked to was headed over to Field. Back at the spur junction, I spotted a pine marten. He was curious about me, bug didn't get close enough for a photo. |
