Started in microspikes on crusty packed snow, but changed to snowshoes a mile in and wore them the rest of the day. Had broken trail up to Engine Hill BW from lone camper who joined us for the rest of the day (thanks, Mike!). We broke out Engine Hill BW following a faint trough most of the way. Trail seems to follow the pink flagging but veers off 2/3 of the way and cuts down sharply. Isolation trail still has lots of exposed water and unstable/collapsing snow bridges. Tentsite bushwack was pretty easy and Davis Path was some great snowshoeing. Treated to fine views on the summit and through the glades. Curiosity got us on the way back and we wanted to see if we could follow flags on the way back and connect with our earlier trail. Flagging seems to go much higher than the usual bushwack, so we just went back to the trail we had broken in the AM. A glorious day. 9 sets of snowshoes (and 4 paws) each way are leaving a nice packed trail for whoever comes next. Surprised no one else was out! Thanks to Emily, Heather, Kali, Val, Joe, Monika, Laurie and Mike for such a lovely day. |
