weather forecast did not align with actual weather; mostly windy and snowing all morning with limited views. Only person going up Jackson and to Pierce, 'breaking' trail--all white but microspikes are all that is needed. Not much snow depth on summit. Trail from Jackson to Hut was the hardest in that I was constantly breaking through ice and into mud beneath. Bumped into first two people below summit of Pierce. 3 people were ahead of me to Eisenhower--I was very happy no longer having to break trail but use other hiker's hard work, seeing where they had broken through the ice--thank you! East side of Eisenhower on spur trail to summit has a lot of snow--would be the only section where snowhoes would have been beneficial, but not worth carrying for this tiny section below the summit. Weather finally got better when I was descending Crawford Path with skies turning blue. It was very windy and cold; used balaclava--felt like a proper winer hike. From Monroe northward was still in clouds by the time I got to Omni Mt Washington in afternoon. |
