Nancy Pond trailhead is bump on the side of the 302 with room for a few cars. Hale Brook trailhead has room for several cars. |

Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Many, lots of rock hopping. Got a wet foot that was my own fault for going too fast. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Walk-over blowdowns on Nancy Pond Trail in a few places. More walk-over blowdowns than I could count on the southern half of Shoal Pond Trail, which was also muddy and wet in many places. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Lots of clear, running water for dogs along this route. |
|
| Bugs: |
Yes, a few, but it was mostly too cold. One went up my nose, and I never saw it again. That concerned me for a few tenths, then I thought, "Protein!" |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Canon lens cap found, returned to owner several miles down the trail. |

| Comments: |
I enjoyed this long day out. Nancy Cascade is one of my new favorite places in the Whites. It's a best kept secret - loved it. Tell no one.
Overall, trails wer easy to follow. SPT is rough, but very manageable. I got turned around along Carrigain Notch Trail between Desolation Trail junction and Stillwater junction, but quickly sorted it out. Details of this misstep in the blog.
The herd path to Mt. Nancy is marked with a small cairn and easy to follow if you are heading that way, which I was not today. |
