Several small brook crossings that were all easy. |

Trail very well blazed (blazes are pretty high up on trees in spots- 8-10'). Several blow downs in the first half of trail that were all easy stepovers. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Fine for dogs. Path follows river first 1.8 miles or so but then no water rest of way. |

Few things buzzing around earlier in afternoon and some months descending in dark but otherwise fine. |

| Comments: |
Foliage is beyond peak in area. Lot of leaves down on the trail but they are dry. The trail has numerous muddy areas hidden under leaves until the point trail turns away from river and climbs steeply up on rock steps (approx 1.8 mi/2400 ft). Many had boulder pavers but a lot involved walking on softball sized rocks and tree roots. A lot of these pockets were in odd places on inclines and were fairly deep in spots. Beyond that some leaves and generally dry conditions. There is one small ledge just before trail leaves trees that is fairly steep (but short) and could be tricky descending on a wet or icy day. Otherwise footing on trail was very good. Was shocked to have Lafayette summit to myself for 30 minutes. Can't remember last time that happened. |
