Nash Stream Road (Cohos Trail), old logging roads, bushwhack
We thought we drive travel further on Nash Stream to be able to come in from the NW but it stops after the bog and at a fork where both "roads" are gated. We took the gate straight ahead (W/ a CT trail sign). What's interesting is that the road seems passable and appears to have had some recent activity. About 1/2 mile along the road it continues uphill but our mapping shows Nash Stream Road to the right and in the forest. We ducked in and followed this road as far was we could with a NW direction heading to the ridge and not directly to the summit. We gained the ridge fairly easily with only a few patches of mud. However, by following the ridge line we hit some thick fir. Stay to the left (East) and we think it's avoidable as there are many herd paths in the area that get you past this last 1/2 mile to the summit. We tried our descent to the west initially to avoid the thick stuff but were pushed towards the drop offs so we crossed the ridge again to the east side and had a much easier time. Great day to be out with Wildpeaks as we close in our our NHHH finale. |
